JBFC Rules and Regulations

I need everyone to review the following and give input or add or omit any sections regarding the biggest fish contest due to the latest controversy.

Bucksaw

THIS IS A DRAFT ONLY.

JBFC INTERNATIONAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
OF BIGGEST FISH CONTEST
(Governed by all members of the JBFC)

This is a document set forth to state the official rules and regulation of the JBFC Biggest Fish Contest as of March 23, 2008. This document has been agreed upon by all members and potential members of the JBFC Fly Fishing Union Local 902 and all international locals members as well. As of March 23, 2008 the rules and regulation regarding the biggest fish caught and released by a person, member of the JBFC or a guest of the JBFC, will be governed by the following:

1. The biggest fish will be determined by total length in terms of inches to the nearest quarter inch up to a length of 32 inches. Any fish caught and released above 32 inches will be determined in the terms of pounds (LBS).

2. The species of fish must be within the Trout or Salmon species, unless the JBFC is held in a region where trout or salmon species are not the fish in pursuit by the JBFC members. I this situation the biggest fish criteria will be determined before the contest begins.

3.All fish must be measured with a measure tape that can measure the contour of the fish being measured. Measure nets can give FALSE measurements so use of such a net is considered a inaccurate measurement. If the fish is over 32 inches it must be weighted by a JBFC issued weight measuring scale.

4.One must follow the “Honour System” when reporting all fish measurements to any other contestants of the JBFC Biggest Fish Contest with either a picture of the fish with a measurement in the picture or a witness to the measurement. It is recommended to fish with at least one other contestant of the JBFC to confirm all fish landed and measured.

5.One is permitted to fish by ones self during the contest but will be in full understanding that if one wishes to enter a fish caught and released into the contest while fishing alone, they may be subject to review by all JBFC members and guests involved in the tournament.

6. All fish caught and released must be with a fly rod and single hook fly, barb less only for salmon and either barb less or barbed for trout. All spinning, bait casting, and hand lining gear is prohibited.

7. When a tie in length or weight occurs both people involved in the tie will be awarded the biggest fish trophy.

The rules and regulation mentioned in the above have been agreed upon by all members of the JBFC and all guests are required to follow.

All ready for the season to start.

I just got back from our "friendly" tackle shop with my new real lined up and my fishing license.
I was impressed with the service I received at the tackle shop, probably because the bald chubby feller was nowhere to be seen.
While chatting with the guy spooling my reel I found out that Salmon fishing in Nova Scotia is going to be totally barb less starting this season. This is great news to hear, especially where we will be doing alot more fishing on St. Mary's in the coming years.

We should decide if we're going to head out on April 1st to get our lies wet. I guess the weather will decide for us.

Official Contest to the JBFC 2007 largest fish

I regret to inform, but must officially contest the JBFC 2007 Largest Fish Award. New data and evidence has come to my attention that requires me to put last years award up for review. I look to the alumni and membership to decide on this matter. Hear my case in the comments.

Stepping up the game

As the fishing season rolls near it's time to get ready. I urge everyone to recap their 2007 season and think how they will improve for 2008. I thought I would share ONE of the tricks I have up my sleeve for stepping up my game.

No sense fishing water without fish, It helps to have a good friend at a marine biology lab.

Notice to all JBFC members!

This is a notice to remind all JBFC members of Local 902 to start or renew a St. Mary's River Association Membership to help sustain and contribute to the beautiful St. Mary's River. Since our 10th annual Fly Fishing trip will be held on the St. Mary's this year it would be a good gesture to join the association. Heres the site for applying for memberships, also we could wait til the association opens in Sherbrooke and get them down there.

JBFC 2007 Video

A big thanks to Phil for taking the time to put
together the video for 2007. Right on time. We
never seem to get going until 150 or so days
till the next one. The video was really well
made, caught a lot of us at our best, ie: swearing,
and captured how much fun we all had. Can't
wait for this year and hope to see a few large
salmon and more stories about 20.5" trout..........
Jason!

Just kidding. Don't expect it to be back to back.

Phil.......no scouting, pre fishing, naming the trout
and pool, etc. prior to the trip.

Barry......no SuperStore fish this year.

Marky......I don't think we have to worry about
you. Kidding. Don't cry.

Shawn.....no spin fishing and less swearing.

Alberta Update - March 9, 2008

Got the itch today. Hit the road with Morrison
to stake out the North Raven for some open
water. No luck. Guessing maybe 7-10 days
if the weather stays above 10 C. Ice on surface
starting to show signs of opening. Can't wait.
Paul is on the schedule for April 25th for two
days on the North Raven and the Clearwater.

Morrison and I found a bit of open water on the
Clearwater today about 20 km West of Caroline.
Open in the shallows with heavy flow. Walked
West to a few pools I know about and hit full on
ice. Have to come back next week.

Was in Calgary on Saturday. Many a prick already
fishing the wide open Bow River in the sun and + 10 C
temperatures. The Calgary shinooks must really help.
I thought about stopping for a quick pee off the bridge
but decided they weren't worth the urine I spent all
morning making.

Keep checking for updates. Maybe one of you
jerks wouldn't mind updating Paul, Shaun, myself,
and Marky what we're missing.

4 month WARNING!

I now have 4 months to prevent this from happening again and 4 months to make sure Jason doesn't go back to back as a JBFC Champion. I will be recruiting allies.

Watch out boys cause this "skunk" means business this year.

Important things to look for before heading out on the water this year;

1. Missing vehicle batteries
2.Missing tips of rods
3.Duct taped to the mattress when you wake up
4.Missing wading boots
5.Locked in the outhouse
6.unforeseen major hangovers
7.Missing flys

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
