Ram River Trip Sunday

Boys, I'm off fishing again. Not bad for a guy who thought his 2008 season was over in July. One more trip and this time, back to the Ram River in the canyon section where Shaun and I slammed those monster cutts last year. Heads up to Marky.....you may not want to look at this site Monday!

Blackstone River August 16, 2008

We were lucky. We hit 4 green drake hatches. Two on the section just below the Gap and two in the Gap the following day. The fish went wild. Took most of the big ones on a green bodied stimulator or green drake dry fly.

GD hatch. Green stim.

GD hatch. Green stim.

Nymph. Recognize this fish Paul?

Gap. Nymph.

21" bull. Gap section. I caught a small cutt on a dry fly. This big bull grabbed the cutt in its mouth and hung on. Somehow, the cutt got off and this bad boy had my dropper nymph hooked to its side. Great fish, great story.

Recap - Left Saturday. Fished below gap in the morning. Went to the cabin and drank wine, ate steak, Riaan and I played poker while Jacob fished the pool where the Wapiapi dumps into the Blackstone. Cleaned the cabin after breakfast Sunday and went to the Gap. Great fishing until about 1 pm when everyhting went dead. Went home. Awesome trip.

JBFC 2008 Group

JBFC 2008 was - Horace, Joe, Phil, Jason, Barrie, Shawn, Ryan, Ronny
(missing from photo Mark, guest appearance)

As always another great trip. The 2008 took place at the River Oaks camp on the St. Mary's River (Sherbrook, NS). First time attendees, Joe, Horace and Ronny made for great company. Shawn won the biggest fish trophy with a trout from Beaver Meadows. Ryan had the greatest fight with a good looking grilse and also gave it his all with a box of wine.

Stay tuned for photos and video from the trip.

I hear rumours of Alberta 2009.

Cabelas has opend a store in Maine

I'm not sure how this one few under our radar, it was brought to my attention by a fan and JBFC blog viewer. Our good friends at Cabelas have opened a store in Scarborough Maine!! I did a few quick calculations and is looks like 9 hours from Halifax.

This sounds like something we could check out on a long weekend. ROAD TRIP!

We will have to get down for a visit and try to get our JBFC man in Roxbury NY to meet up us.

In Memory of Bill Hatcher

Just recently one of the JBFC's founding members, Phil Hatcher, lost his grandfather. I was lucky enough to have gotten to know him over the years and thoroughly enjoyed when Phil and I went down to the lake to visit his grandparents. The thing I remember most about Bill is from the first time I met him he acted like he was your buddy from way back, always carrying on and cracking jokes. Even the last time I spoke to him at Phil and Lise's wedding it was like a 25 your old young man trapped in a 86 year old's body. He knew all of the JBFC members and we all loved listening to him tell fishing stories. He will be missed.

On behalf of all the JBFC members we would like to send our condolences to Phil and his family at this difficult time.

sincerely,

Mark S.

September float tube trip to Hunny Hole

JAY BOMB! We need to set a date to hit that same spot you know where to rangle up the hogs.

Do you remember what time in Sept. we went back there? I think it was in the middle some time but I'm not sure.

We should make a day of it and make some lunch on the colman stove.

Any JBFC member is welcome to come all we need is a date. I vote for Sept.27th, let me know what you guys are thinking for a date.

I need to get in the woods!

I've got to get my nature fix soon! Doctors orders.

When we go down to River Oaks Camp this weekend the captain asked me if we could cut up some wood and stack it. This will be the "ONLY" chore this coming weekend.

If you don't want to: have some pours, act the fool, sing out of tune, or play washers and fish, your uninvited for the weekend.

I plan on taking the biggest fish trophy home to get this years winner name engraved on it. I'll send you the pic Shawn. And I'll fix up this years little trophy fiasco as well.

Sherbrooke bound,

Bucksaw.

CAUTION!- This will be a make up weekend for myself after missing most of this years JBFC trip so beware!

Blackstone River - August 2, 2008.

Nymph of the day.

Recognize this pool/fish Paul?

Large Rockie.

Took Riaan to fish the Blackstone about 2 km's down from the gap section. Left at 5 am and were back at 5 pm. Awesome day. Lots of cutts and rockies. Both of us with 4-5 over 17". Largest was 19". All on nymph set up. Riaan is hooked. Spent an hour or so talking about the river, species, nymphing, approach, etc, before really getting into it. Riaan caught on quick and after his 1st 15" cutt he was left alone to fend for himself. I only guide for so long before my brain says fuck it and fish. I wouldn't make much money as a guide. I'm taking Riaan and his father in law Jacob back in 2 weeks for an over nighter.

JBFC 2009!

Come on boys. Shake the dust off your gear and lets get planning for 09'. I'm hearing rumors of Alberta again. Would it be the same trip as 07' ? I'm fine with that. Or do we want to hit some where new or get Maxi back in the game and head to N.Y. again. Shawn, give us the low down on AB. and make it sound better then the 07' trip( if that's possible).

Lets shakin' bake boys!
